Making much ado about Shakespeare

example-2.jpgBudding actors from Breeze Hill School were given a taste of life on the stage when they performed King Lear at Manchester’s Dancehouse Theatre. The play was part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival, which involves more than 3,000 secondary schools across the UK. Each night during the festival pupils performed a modern interpretation of one of Shakespeare’s plays. Breeze Hill’s production had Orwellian theme with the actors dressed in red and white to represent good and evil. Farhan Shahid who played King Lear said “Being in the play has taught me to work well in a group, develop patience and control my laughter. Doing the play in Manchester was great; I really enjoyed meeting new people and performing in front of hundreds of people.

Wizard show by pupils

Breeze Hill pupils took audiences on a journey all the way from Oldham to the Emerald City, with thier energetic production of the classic fantasy adventure, "The Wizard of Oz".

They showed off their talents to a packed house, with parents and teachers flocking to enjoy the musical extravaganza, which was vividly brought to life in the 1939 Hollywood hit starring Judy Garland.

More than 30 youngsters got on board, turning thier hand to everything from lighting and recording to set building and acting.

ICT technician Naeem Iqbal, who worked on the sound and lighting on the show, said "We're very proud of the pupils who got involved, because it takes a lot to get up on stage in front of so many people. They turned thier hand to lots of different jobs and many of them demonstrated great talent, which we are hoping they will show more of in the future".
